Statement of Educational Philosophy
As an educator, I believe that all students can and deserve to learn in a positive, fun and supportive environment. I also believe that hands on collaborative learning can lead to higher order thinking in students and that parent and family involvement or support of students is essential for a positive school experience.
I believe that all students have the ability to and deserve to learn in a positive, fun and supportive environment because I believe that with the right approach and support, children will learn to believe in themselves as learners and enjoy themselves along the way. In order to help all students in my classroom learn, I will build confidence in each student with positive reinforcement and work with individual students to provide extra support in areas where students may struggle. I believe that creating a fun and engaging environment is the key to student success. Because I believe that all students can and deserve to learn, I will provide the material in a variety of ways because I know that all students do not learn the same way. Doing so, will allow all students to access the material in a way that works best for him or her and creates success.
Secondly, I believe that hands on collaborative learning can lead to higher level thinking in all students. As a St. Mary’s College of California graduate, I am a firm believer in hands on learning, and have experienced first hand how powerful it can be for students at any age. In order to provide students with a hands -on learning environment, I will do my best to provide students with materials that will allow them to discover and explore the curriculum. Hands -on learning also is important because students will view learning from a different perspective and scaffold one another to a higher level of thinking. Providing hands on collaboration will be a challenge, however, I think that by involving all students and the community, students will be excited about learning and working alongside a diverse group of people, all while building a positive social relationship.
Lastly, I believe in the power of parent and family involvement in them classroom and at home. I think parent and family involvement is essential because parents are students’ first teachers. Parents provide extra support when children may not understand a topic, give positive encouragement, and enhance student self esteem in the classroom. In order to involve parents in my classroom, I will welcome volunteers with open arms. By doing so, students will feel proud and connected to their classroom and parent. I will also create a classroom blog where students can see daily activities and pictures of their students actively learning. The blog will include important dates, activities, tips and other information for parents that will open a link of communication and support between the students, parents and classroom.
I am excited to educate all children in a positive, fun and enriching environment, providing hands on learning experiences, and involving parents in each child’s learning. By doing so, students will become self confident, active and enthusiastic learners.
